Continue into Sabah’s “Valley of the Mist” for a unique overnight homestay and immerse yourself in the culture and traditions of the locals. Visit Kinabalu National Park, see the most amazing collection of wild rhododendrons and orchids and enjoy a canopy walk above Borneo’s tropical rainforest. Spend a full day in Sandakan that starts with Orang Utans at Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre and the Borneo Sun Bear Centre before visiting the Australian War Memorial and the Rainforest Discovery Centre. End with 3 nights at the award winning Sukau Rainforest Lodge and view the distinctive proboscis monkeys gathering by the Kinabatangan riverbank every night. Day 1: Fly Australia – Kuala Lumpur – Kota Kinabalu. Fly on Malaysia Airlines from Australia to Kota Kinabalu via Kuala Lumpur, arriving on day 2.
Day 2: Kota Kinabalu. Upon arrival in Kota Kinabalu met and transferred to the hotel.

Day 3: Kota Kinabalu – Kota Belud. Depart Kota Kinabalu and head for Kota Belud with scenic views of paddy fields, villages and a picturesque sight of majestic Mount Kinabalu. This afternoon enjoy a short boat ride to Pandan Pandan Island to snorkel and explore the rich colourful reef. (B,L)

Day 4: Kota Belud – Kiulu Valley Homestay. Depart for the scenic Kiulu Valley, the valley of the mist. Upon arrival meet the host family. Immerse yourself in the local culture and tradition with games and activities such as rice pounding, blow pipes, handicrafts and fishing. Enjoy a walk through the village offering stunning landscapes of the scenic valley with paddy fields, plantations and orchards. This evening, enjoy a chat with the locals about the village history and folktales. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Kiulu Valley – Kinabalu National Park – Kundasang. Enjoy a brisk morning walk in the cool mountain air before a 2 hour drive to the foothills of Mt. Kinabalu. Enroute stop at a local market and the Kundasang War Memorial Park to learn of Sabah’s WWII history. Arrive at the Kinabalu Natural History Gallery and Mountain Garden at Park Headquarters. Weather permitting, take a guided walk on one of the mountain trails to explore the cool, montane forest. (B,L,D)

Day 6: Kundasang – Poring Hot Springs – Sandakan. Continue east to Poring and walk amidst tropical lowland rainforests leading up to the treetop canopy walkways. Visit the Kipungit Waterfalls before continuing overland to Sandakan. If weather permits enjoy a ticklish fish massage. (B,L)

Day 7: Sandakan – Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary. Transfer to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. Learn of the plight of the Orang Utans and the rehabilitation efforts at the Centre. Witness the feeding of the orang utans and watch the young at play in the newly completed nursery area. Continue with a visit to the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre, the Rainforest Discovery Centre and the Sandakan Memorial Park. (B,L)
Day 8: Sandakan – Sukau. Transfer to the Sandakan jetty for the boat ride up the Kinabatangan River to Sukau with the opportunity to view birds and wildlife in virgin mangrove and rainforest habitats. (B,L,D)
Accommodation: Sukau Rainforest Lodge, Sukau – 3 nights.
Day 9-10: Sukau – Gomantong Caves. Spend 2 full days at Sukau Rainforest Lodge. Morning and afternoon river cruises. Visit Gomantong Caves and traverse deep into the forest in search of the Proboscis Monkey. (B,L,D)
Day 11: Sukau – Sandakan – Kota Kinabalu – Kuala Lumpur – Australia. Return to Sandakan and transfer to the airport for the return flight to Australia, via Kota Kinabalu and Kuala Lumpur. (B)
